I attended and graduated from Virginia College of Montgomery (Alabama) in December 2018. The school closed immediately thereafter. I received a letter from Central Portfolio Control stating that. (originator) /., LLC (current creditor) is trying to collect an owed balance of $1957.92. I have student loans through. and am in GREAT standing with them, as well as Department of Education that all say they show no outstanding debt with them.
I am unable to contact the school (Birmingham) branch to have someone fill in the blanks. CPC has threatened to affect my credit and assume the loan balance is correct if I don't rectify. I have tried reaching out to CPC, I would just like to know if this is valid and if not, I would like to rectify the issue. Got a call from these, scammers, from a guy named Cory. Something about a debt to Virginia College and how I owed 2200 in student debt. Funny thing though, I have no student debt. Checked with financial aid, they confirmed I have no debt.

Sounds like someone caught wind that a college went out of business and bought up all the 'outstanding debt' they thought they could get back and went hamm on all these innocent people. They've called about 3 times so far, but I never confirm my identity, been through this kinda scam before. CPC might be a legit company, but these bottom feeding losers should really shut down business and get a real, actually beneficial job in society, instead of draining it.
